Tutorial: How to Prepare, Dry, and Freeze Material for Processing with Beat and Sift Bags
Required Materials
-
Plant or trim rich in trichomes
-
Freezer
-
Beat and Sift bags and screens
-
Clean, dry workspace
Step 1: Harvesting and Preparing the Material
Selecting the Material
Harvest plant parts rich in trichomes, preferably flowers or resin-covered sugar leaves.
Removing Unwanted Leaves and Stems
Trim off excess green leaves and small stems to focus on the most resinous parts.
Step 2: Drying and Freezing
Preliminary Drying
If the material is too moist, let it dry until it reaches an optimal humidity level.
Note: Excess moisture can negatively affect the extraction process.
Freezing
Place the dried material in a sealed container or bag.
Make sure it's properly closed to avoid moisture infiltration.
Freeze it for at least 12–24 hours.
Benefits of Freezing:
-
Makes the material more brittle
-
Helps trichomes separate more easily
-
Reduces contamination from plant matter
Step 3: Extraction with Beat and Sift Bags
Preparing the Screens
Choose the Beat and Sift bag based on the trichome size you want to collect.
Extraction Process
Take the frozen material and gently beat it over the screen for about a minute.
Use consistent but not excessive force.
Repeat the process multiple times as needed.
Tip: Keep early batches separate—quality varies between passes.
Filtering and Collection
Use the Beat and Sift screens to further filter the product through 120 / 90 / 73 micron sizes.
Alternatively, try a static sift using the 45 micron screen.
Step 4: Finishing
Collect, Press, Seal, and Cure the sifted trichome powder (dry sift).
Tips for Best Results:
-
The quality of the starting material greatly affects the final outcome
-
Work in a clean, dry environment
-
Ensure the material is thoroughly frozen before sifting for optimal yield
